Can anyone help? I have an Acer laptop running XP.

The keyboard has suddenly become very sluggish. I need to keep my finger on a key for a couple of seconds before it registers the keystroke. This is the same all keys. This little message would probably have taken about 10 minutes to type if I was on the laptop

    Thanks

    Welcome to WindowsBBS:)

Does the problem remain after a reboot?
Have you been into control panel->Keyboard and adjusted the settings?

The problem does remain after a reboot and I have also been into the control panel - keyboard and nothing there helps.

I have also run Ad-Aware (from Lavasoft) and cleared everything reported, I have run AVGfree virus checker, and that was clean.

I can log out of my user account and with no other users logged in, the keyboard is sluggish when I type in my password.
I have done a restore to the last date that everything worked but no joy.
If I load up in SAFE mode, then the keyboard works fine.

Could it be registry problem - if so what would be the best tool to use. I am aware that the free ones do the scan but not the clean up!

    Hello,

same problem over here, but fixed by simply removing the battery.
Just running on AC power has no problems.
Also other programs became unstable, but not without the battery.

Guess I have to order a new one.

    Hope this helps.

Thanks. I'll try this when I get home tonight. I have noticed that my battery life is shorter between recharges and considered a new one anyway. But I'll try your suggestion and let you know how I got on.

Akooiman, this did indeed help. Taking the battery out and running off the mains did indeed fix this.
I have no idea why, and would never have considered it....but, hey, it worked and everthing is hunky dory (except I gotta buy a new battery!)
    Thanks
