Does anyone know of a way to prevent MSWord in Office XP from saving any changes to normal.dot? In otherwords forcing it to not save changes.

Do a Find for normal.dot and right click it and select Properties and tag the "Read Only" box. That should keep it in it's original form.

When you use the file later, the program will advise you that you have opened a Read Only file and will require that it be saved under a different name.

I soory I guess I missed stated my problem. I have Win2k locked down (I hope) so that the kids at school should not be allowed to save anything on the system. (they have network account for that) But MSWord thinks that changes have occured to normal.dot even though they have not and trys to save it, reporting an error that it can't save because of permissions that are set. Does anyone know of a way to prevent this from happening?
