After installing Fire Fox 3.0 I uninstalled IE 7.0 and found this to be a miostake. Without IE I have two programs which will not run under Fire Fox. When I found this problem I reinstalled IE 7.0 successfully (It appears in my Control Panel "Add/Remove list ". But when I try to open IE I get a tool bar which quickly disappears and the screen is white. Suggestions Pls.

There is an extension for Firefox called IE Tab which is meant for such eventualities. Install it in FF & on the troublesome pages click the FF icon in bottom bar. This would change the engine to IE.

Regarding IE, right click on its icon & choose Run without Add-ons to see if it works correctly. If it works ok, there is some addon which is creating problem.

I believe I installed it in ireFox but have no understanding when you posted "& on the troublesome pages "?? I believe I have a major conflict between Fire Fox and IE 7. When I try to start IE 7.0 a taskbar appears across the top of my screen and then disappears. If I put the tip of my cursor at the top edge of my screen the task bar appears again but it shows that it is connecting. But somehow it never gets connected and eventually generates a warning that a connection could not be found. Is It possible I need to uninstall both browsers and then reinstall IE 7.0 followed by FF?????

I believe I installed the IE Tab in Firefox but have no understanding of what is meant by "& on the troublesome pages "??? When I try to start IE 7, my screens turns white and for a instant a task bar appears across the top of my screen. I find if I place the point of my arrow curser at the top edge oif the screen the task bar reappears. It shows that it is connecting but I have no idea as to what. After many minutes "connecxting" I get a warning message that a connection could not be found. I originally used I& 7.0 and added FF 3.0. Subsequently I uninstalled IE 7.0, When I found two programs of import to me would not run under FF I reinstalled IE7.0 but have been unable to9 open it at all. It does appear in the add/remove list in the control panel. Is it possible I need to uninstall both? Then reinstall IE 7.0 first then followed by FF?????

    Telephonics-

Regardless of whether or not you use it, you need to have some version of IE on your computer. When you got rid of IE7, did you roll back to IE6?

Lots of folks never ever use IE for all sorts of correct and errant reasons. But IE is not so much a program, as a special collection of Windows files, brought together in the instance of the launch of IE.

    Telephonics-

You should not do either a roll back of IE7 or attempt an uninstall of IE. IE needs to be on your computer. It is part of Windows. IE7 was really all about security which was lacking in IE6. Keep IE7, and, if you do not like it, just don't use it. Use what ever browser suits you the best. Of the non-IE browsers, the most popular is Firefox. There is also Opera, which has a niche but very devoted following. SeaMonkey Browser, part of the SeaMonkey suite, based upon Mozilla Suite, grandfathered from the original Netscape Suite, SeaMonkey is rock solid and has a couple of features that i like that Firefox does not have.

My default browser is Firefox. My second choice is SeaMOnkey, then IE8, then Safari.

Thanks for your p[ost but I point out that although I have IE 7.0 installed it will not open and If I am to keep Fire Fox I need to make IE 7.0 my temporary default searcher in order to run the 2 programs I need to run occasionally . Neither runs under FF

To set the record straight ....

Uninstalling IE 7 on an XP computer - cannot be done on Vista - automatically rolls back the system to IE 6.

telephonics - I would uninstall IE7 and check that IE6 is working - if not try running IEFix

AL Jones - Welcome to WindowsBBS :)
I do not understand what you are saying here - which upgrades?

If you are referring to Windows Updates then IE is required - there is a workaround to use Firefox, but you must post that question in the Firefox forum.
