first i searched to see if this had already been addressed, and yes some other people have had problems with it. for them it seems there was some hardware that was waking the system out of sleepmode without them knowing it had permission to. well, ive checked through my device manager and turned off everything but the keyboard and mouse to having the ability to wake up the computer from sleep.

my comp is windows vista 32bit. it used to go into sleep just fine and stay that way for hours till i needed it again during the day. i shut it down each night when i go to bed. turn it on when i get up to start my day and do what i need to on it. but i like it to sleep when im busy doing other chores around the house. for the past 3 days it wont go into sleep mode, not even for a few seconds.

i cant find a program running with exceeded ram ussage to account for why it cant find the memory to go into sleep. i cant find anything to figure out why it wont go into sleep.

i ran hijackthis. it keeps finding a file that my computer says doesnt exist, that even with the hidden files being visable that its still not there. hijackthis found lots of stuff, most of it i can see belongs to programs i have like my mcafee, avast, yahoo toolbar, adaware, and the hp tools that came with my computer to help with updating the drivers and things. the hp tool works better at updating drivers, it seems, than the windows one which never seems to be able to find the drivers. anyways, ill try to post my hjt report here. adaware, avast, mcafee, even windows defender are finding nothing when they do full scans of my comp btw.

i hope someone knows something else that might be causing this. im fulling updated according to windows update. i dont know what to do. any advice would be very much appreciated. i sift through the threads here and read all the advice you all give each other and everyone. i try to understand it and to follow it. its helped me with many problems for many computers, mostly my mothers, my brother inlaws, and my mother inlaws. you guys are wonderful help. thank you for being here.

You appear to have two security suites installed, Avast and McAfee as well as AdAware and Windows Defender antispyware running. That is probably 2 antivirus programs and 4 antispyware programs. You should only have one antivirus and antispyware program running at a time, otherwise they will clash with each other.

And guess what...I think you will find you have malware installed in the form of MyWebSearch. You would have agreed to it's download and installation, so most antispyware programs don't classify it as malware.

I would not trust the program Weather.exe (by WeatherBug) not to be a possible cause of Sleep problem. I would at least stop it from running in the background (I use a link/bookmark to our government weather service).

I have seen that Yahoo Toolbar and other "toolbars" have been mentioned as not "good ". I recommend to uninstall them.

See if the security people think you should post a HJT log in the Malware and Virus Removal forum.

Don't have numerous security checking/scanning programs running at the same time. You can have more than one installed, but disable the extra programs and run them manually, say, every few days.

Don't install programs off the internet unless you investigate that they are not going to cause problems on your system.

    Matt
