Double Click & Right Click

I have looked at some responses to the above subject, but they do not cover my problem. I am using XP - the double click does not explore but attempts to open a program from a list, also the right click does not have "Open" and "Explore" as the first two options - there is some garbage letters - I have tried using the following:
: "regsvr32 /i shell32.dll "
: "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shell" to none
and also: "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Drive\shell" to none

none of the above is making a difference.

Any suggestions?? Thanks
