    Hi Bmoore1129,

    Have you tried the download again? I think his server must really be busy, because it took me 3 attempts before I was able to get the full download.

    Let me know, if you are still unsuccessful.

    Thankx!

    No trouble downloading on this end. Have you tried one of the mirror sites?

    Updated "Compact" Version

    From Holger Metzger's site: http://www.hmetzger.de/net7comp.html

    Netscape 7.0 Compact

    News:

    - 09/15/02: New version available: Removed the AOL client Detection Tool and the German language files from the package, thus resulting in a smaller download size (13 MB). Added a comparison chart.

    - 09/13/02: New tweaks to the installation file. AOL Instant Messenger is a completely optional component now.

    Hi erg,

    Let us know what you think, if you do try the updated Version.

    I'm running it now, and it's smooth sailing for me...

    I didn't find AOL in my Internet Options|Trusted Sites this install! That's a definite plus.

    How safe is this version from a security point of view?

    I want to install it on a network but will like to know if it can be trusted since it coming from an individual not a corporation. Even though it is very nice as I am experiencing on my pc.

    Hi JagmonN,

    Netscape 7.0 has the Mozilla Referer Privacy Leak, explanation HERE.

    The workaround as follows (courtesy of tranquilo)

    Add the following to your user.js or prefs.js file.

    user_pref( "capability.policy.default.Window.onunload ", "noAccess ");

    user_pref( "network.http.sendRefererHeader ", 1);
    0 = don't send any referer header
    1 = send referer only on clicks
    2 = send referer on image requests (default, do not use)

    However, if any sites break, you may have to remove the "referer" pref from your prefs.js/user.js file.
    ----

    As to trusting a Version which has been CCK'd by an individual for Corporate use, I can't advise you. You will have to use your own judgment.

    Turning off Format Flow

    Ramona I thought you were offline and just sent you a PM. Now that you are out and about, I read this line on Metzers site:
    ===========================
    In MailNews: Classic Linebreak (Format=Flowed display disabled: see the difference: format=flowed on | format=flowed off)
    ==========================
    Is there a way to chane it in his first version or only in the Compact one

    Hi erg,

    This is Holger's first Version, so maybe you're thinking about the SillyDog701 Streamline Versions?

    You probably can use the same script in your user.js for the other Version, if the above is true. Maybe you can clarify the exact Version to which you're referring?

    Thanks!

    I am sorry but I looked at so many I forgot which one I used. I THINK I install the full final version of 7.0 final. I know it shows about 24 mb when I look at it's properties. One more quick question. How would be the best way to uninstall what I have and install the compact version

    erg, my friend,

    Click on Help
    About Netscape

    That will tell you the Version you are running. ;)

    For a "Clean" install look HERE.

    Before installing the latest "Compact" release, (9/17/02) download and read the "readme.txt" file on the ftp site.

    The Windows Version is the: NS7SetupC.exe, 13876 KB.

    I note that the System Requirements recommended by Holger Metzger are:

    *Windows 95, 98, or 98SE, Windows Me, Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000, or Windows XP
    *Intel Pentium class (or compatible) 600 MHz (or faster) processor
    *196MB RAM
    *28 MB of free hard disk space

    Netscape Minimum Requirements:
    *Windows 95, 98 or 98SE, Windows Me, Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000, or Windows XP
    *Intel Pentium class (or compatible) 233 MHz processor
    *64 MB RAM
    *28 MB of free hard disk space
    ---------

    Also noted that Beatnik is included in this version. I personally would not opt for Beatnik, as my experience has been less than desirable with this media player.

    Ramona, you said, regarding the Mozilla Referer Privacy Leak,
    Could you or tranquilo explain that further? http://members.ping.de/~sven/mozbug/refcook.html says this:
    ============copy/pasted =========
    Workarounds

    Pick one:

    * Install a fixed version of Mozilla (newer than 2002-09-17).
    * Create a file user.js in your profile folder (the one with the prefs.js file).
    (snip)
    Put the following line in the file to disable the HTTP_REFERER header completely:
    user_pref( "network.http.sendRefererHeader ", 0);
    ============end copy/paste=======

    What's wrong with just entering the line user_pref( "network.http.sendRefererHeader ", 0); as recommended?

    The only problem with shutting off the referrer entirely is that it may break some sites that use it for things like downloading... Since there is no method to toggle it on/off from within the browser* you will have to restart N7/moz, reload the page, then accomplish what you originally intended. Of course, if you never come across any site that uses the referrer in this way, feel free to shut it off completely ;) As always, it depends on where you go on the net.

    *Beonex 0.8.1 has several custom options in edit/prefs to deal with the referrer problem. Beonex is based on Mozilla 1.0.1, as is N7.

    Thank you.

    I changed my Mozilla user.js entry from 0 to 1 as follows:

    user_pref( "network.http.sendRefererHeader ", 1);

    I didn't add the other entry.
    user_pref( "capability.policy.default.Window.onunload ", "noAccess "); because from what I could gather at http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=145579 and through NG searches, that was an alternate fix and nowhere did I see it suggested to use both..

    EDIT: Just thought it was important to mention that the latest version of Netscape 7.0 Compact already includes the http referrer fix !
    See http://www.hmetzger.de/net7comp.html
    =========copy/paste===========
    News:
    - 10/02/02: New version available: Existing Realplayer will not be reconfigured, new about:page, minor tweaks in the config.ini, new installer (the previous one didn't remove the extracted files in the temp folder).
    - 10/01/02: Downloads are working again!
    - 09/17/02: Fix for the http referrer issue incorporated. New version with the fix available.
    - 09/17/02: New version available: replaced Netscape Live Audio with the Beatnik Player Plugin (better sound quality).
