    Is there someplace where there is a list of products and progams that are compatible with the Vista 6-bit OS?

    I recently bought a new machine with Vista 64-bit installed. I blindly placed my Fix-It pro utilities only to find it was not compatible and in fact it created such severe problem that I was required to go back to the factory image.

    Would be nice to have a list of programs known to be 64-bit compatible. Contacting each product owner is a nightmare. As most have very poor response time on questions.

    Thank godness for forums like this.

    Not that I am aware of. It would be hard to compile.

    Try looking up the potential program at download websites like Cnet
    www.download.com.
    On some websites, there are reader's experiences with the program (User Reviews).

    Just a websearch might reveal people asking for help on forums.

    Most programs will work on 64-bit, even if they are 32-bit. The exception would probably be these "Utility" & "Fix-it" (break it!) type programs.

    Vista 64-bit compatibility

    Mattman;
    Thanks, I have search the web and site like www.download.com & CNET with no results. Problem with web searches today is that you have to wade through not related hits to find one good one. But that's life. Its better than no search.

    Arie;
    Thanks, I have many 32 bit programs running just fine. It's the one like Fit-it and System Mechanic that not only aren't compatible but cause severe problems that have me concerns. I don't want to have to restore my machine to the factory settings everytime that occurs.

    These software houses have terrible support in that most only have email support and you have 2 day turn-around. At least System Mehanic has phone support. That is, if you can wait 93 minutes.

    I'd sure like to see somewhere a list of unknown compatible or in-compatible programs.

    Thanks again for responding,
    Kermitp

    I did find such a list of programs that work or don't work.

    http://www.iexbeta.com/wiki/index.php/Main_Page

    From there you can find links to hardware and software compatibilities issues. While this is a great start one must be careful in how they use the information. I suspect most of it has not been verified. But its a start.

    Had the same incompatibility here with RegistryFix. Not even the latest version - 7.x, I suppose - supports the x64 Vista. I've been using x64 + SP1 for a couple of months now and most of the things work just great. Like Arie said, only problem is with these "fix'n'tweak" stuff. It was hard to find one which I liked. Try Wise Registry Cleaner, it's been working just fine with the x64 Vista and is accurate enough. Good luck!
