Right, I'll start from the beginning.

I had the neowin patch installed (uxtheme) which lets you have better looking themes.

I installed SP3 and realised that I no longer had my nice theme.

I uninstalled it by means of system restore.

Now, my themes don't work at all and I have this terrible slowdown when finding drives.

The XP appearance doesn't show up. And my other themes that work with the neowin patch throw up an error.

I get the old magnifying glass in the explorer window for at least 45 seconds.
Then it eventually finds my drives. This doesn't happen if I am viewing files on the drives, only if I'm viewing the drives themselves.

My Documents, C:\ , Program Files and the like work.

Only places that show my drives are slow such as "My Computer ", the dropdown menu at the top, and if I right click and "Send To ".
Explorer hangs until it has found the drives.

I hope I explained that well enough.
    Any solutions?
A clean install is not a solution.

    Thanks,
    Frozenwounds.

Hi and welcome to the BBS,

Run Error Checking (CHKDSK) on each of the fixed drives.

Even if that helps the drive access, it (probably) won't help with the themes.

I might boot into Safe Mode. (See how My Computer works there). I would uninstall the Neowin program there.

Then, I would go to the manufacturers of the computer's hardware and get any driver updates. Install SP3, then reinstall Neowin.

    Matt

I ran CMD, entered CHKDSK and:
    "Warning! F parameter not specified.
Running CHKDSK in read-only mode. "

Did I need to supply any arguments?
Has SP3 damaged some vital disc-finding file?
