Sometimes it's every 2 minutes, sometimes it will stay on for an hour. There's no predictable pattern. I've tried various things...I ran check disk it was fine. I set it not to restart, but it does it anyway. I blew a fan into the computer because someone told me the fan in the computer may not be working and to try it. I switched to a USB keyboard. Nothing has helped so far. I don't know what else to try. I was told this wasn't a Windows problem, but a hardware problem. Help, please?

The option not to restart is on System Failure - basically meaning software.

There are a multitude of reasons allied to hardware why your computer is behaving as it does. so let's get some basic info first and see if the problem is temperature related .....

Download Everest and go to Computer > Sensor and post the temps and voltages shown there please.

I realised that you have posted this problem in the Malware & Virus Removal forum - I would rather that any question of malware, etc was cleared up first before taking this thread further.

However please post the information I requested.

No, I posted a different problem in the malware and virus removal forum. I think I mentioned this problem, but in the malware forum my main problem is the generic host error I get. This restarting problem has been going on long before I was getting the other error. They're two different problems. I shouldn't have mentioned this one in the other post, but i didn't know if it would be helpful. Sorry.

Understood. No need to apologize but it would be helpful if you download and install the last free version of Everest (2.20) that Pete gave you a link to. Then post back with the information he requested. That will give us a very quick look at a couple of things that could potentially be related to your random shutdown issue.

    ;)

The CPU temperature is a little on the high side, but what would concern me is one of the voltage readings ....
My initial reaction is that your PSU (Power Supply Unit) is failing.

Before I suggest replacing the Power Supply Unit (PSU) lets have some corroborative data .....

Please download and run HWMonitor 32-bit version - let it run for an hour or so - it shows max, min and current values over the period it is running. Then go File e > Save as and save as a text file . Open that in Notepad and copy the contents and paste into your next post here.

First you have to prove that it's broke.

You could try starting from cold and go straight into the BIOS setup and look for Volts and Temps and watch for changes. If you can't find that information displayed, just leave it running for as long as it takes to do it's usual restart.
If it does restart from the BIOS, then you can discount software.
