I have xp Prof (NT). Need to learn how to check and possibly remove old company files from laptop. I have already reinstalled xp twice. Want to be sure all their stuff is deleted since I owned the computer prior to them "enhancing" it.

Thanks to anyone who can help

PS is their a program that will do this?? How do I confirm when done? :)

Do you want to remove the files without reinstalling Windows afresh ?

    Where are these files ?

Not sure where files are. Only know computer was portioned off or partitioned when I started work there. Seems there are files left that indicate there is some control over my computer still.
Tried installing SDfix and then restarted in safe mode to try and run but it will not allow me to restart in safe mode and brings me right back to choices. Only choice Im allow is to start in normal mode.

If you are willing to invest time in formatting & reinstalling Windows afresh go ahead [after backing YOUR data]. I can't see a solution to your problem as we don't have any idea whats been installed on your computer for security etc.

Low-level format from a CD/DVD, followed by a fresh install of the OS from a retail CD\DVD.

since you "have reinstalled XP twice ", suggest you try again, this time removing all partitions (deleting it/them) and then make new partition(s) and then install. That will delete all files from the disk. Of course you'll have to install drivers for video and sound at least.

The installation disk has options to do all this; read the screens carefully.

Thanks all for advice. Thanks Sparrow for taking the time to read my post and seeing that I've tried to reinstall XP. There still seems to be a problem. Where it wont allow me to repartition the alloted 503mb they separated. Could it beanythingto do with "NT "? I downloaded XP Prof and it still comes up as "NT" system. Wondering if there was hardware added I dont know about.
Going back to check system info now to see.....
Lastly, sometimes computer reads that I don't have access to do things Ive done before or it will say "access denied "

Your XP Pro is classified as a NT based system, as it did evolve from the NT system, same as Windows 2000, and Vista.
Here is an old school approach for deleting NT partitions, I think you need it.
You will need a boot floppy for this.
Go here and get the file for Win98SE OEM. Put a floppy into the drive and then run the downloaded file. A Win98 boot floppy will be created.
    Download Delpart here: http://www.juliatexas.com/delpart/delpart.htm
Copy Delpart onto the Win98 boot floppy, it will fit.
Boot the computer with the floppy,(choose without CD-Rom support when prompted), and type in "delpart" to start it.
This utility will delete NT partitions, be sure to 'Save' your changes (deletions) before exiting.

Yes it is, rsinfo. But due to this ( "There still seems to be a problem. Where it wont allow me to repartition the alloted 503mb they separated. "), I think it is a good idea.

Well if any of you need to cleanup the partition info from a drive, the best utility I have found out is Linux [any version would do]. It can read & delete any partition that you can throw at it, but DO not create any partitions with Linux as Windows can't do anything with them.

Boot from a Linux cd & proceed to install it. At the page where it asks for disk partitions, choose Manual & delete all partitions. Save information & exit Linux install.
