IEXPLORE.EXE / alg.exe (virus removal)

Greetings,

As of late, I have been having difficulty getting rid of the extraneous IEXPLORE.EXE and alg.exe processes that are running in the Task Manager. I am pretty sure these two processes are the root of the problem as they look unfamiliar to me, prior to the problems I've been having. When I'm browsing the web, on Firefox 3.0, almost all links I click on get re-directed to what seems to be adware/spyware sites. I've scanned my computer with Avira AND AVG, both separately, and in Safe Mode (and with all files unhidden and visible), but to no avail. Additionally, in my Display Properties, only the Themes, Appearance and Settings tabs exist (two tabs missing). I took a scan with HiJackThis for you experts to look at. I tried to look up these processes but it's difficult with the links re-directing me all the time to the wrong site (BTW I forgot to mention if I manually paste the link in the URL box it sometimes works). The log below is taken shortly after my PC boots up in Windows (only two programs are active at this time, Rocketdock and Creative Sound Manager). Anyway here is the log, I hope I have given enough information for you experts to examine this, and I greatly appreciate your time looking into this..

Welcome to Windowsbbs.

Please do this in the order given.

Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware (MBAM) from here or here and save the file to your desktop.

Double click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.

• Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
• If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
• Once the program has loaded, select 'Perform Quick Scan', then click Scan.
• The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
• When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
• Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
• When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart. (See Note below)
• The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
• Post the entire report in your next reply along with a fresh HijackThis log.

Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts. Click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process. If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately.

• Download RSIT by random/random and save it to your desktop.
• Double click RSIT.exe to start the tool and click Continue at the disclaimer.
• When the scan completes it will open a log named log.txt maximized, and a log named info.txt minimized.
• Please post the contents of both logs here in your next reply.

Please post the MBAM log and the log.txt from RSIT.

Hey Geri,

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately I can't open any of the links that you've given me; the particular infection my computer has is re-directing most links I click on and has completely blocked the sites you've linked me to, telling me that it's a Page Load Error.

I think I'm just going to reformat. I don't want to waste your time and I was planning on doing it sometime soon anyway as it's been over a year.
