i have a gateway desktop with win xp home. I've been have trouble with this computer shutting down and rebooting. I'll post another question later about this.
Anyway I finally reinstalled windows after many stop messages, but when I went to look for my second hard drive in "my computer" it wasn't listed . it show up in system information, and it shows on computer manage, although it doesn't show a drive letter for it.
How can I assign a drive letter to it so I can use it again?

Have you installed the latest Service Pack?

If not, do so plus the subsequent updates.

I used the cd's that came with the computer, one was the operating system with xp sp1, and the otheer was the drivers. Then I had sp2 installed. Like I said, it shows the main hard drive and it also shows a external drive and it shows the drive in question. But where it says volume (where the drive letter should be,) it's blued out.

Try going to Disk Management (right click My Computer icon > Manage) and assign a drive letter.

I reinstalled disk magic 8. and it showed the partition I'm having troubles with was changed to a 44 Hex Goback partion. I don't know how that was done but I reinstalled GoBack and the partion was given a drive letter and changed back to a ntfs partition. Everything ain't alright with the computer but at least I can see my extra hard drive.
I'll post later about the other problems. Thanks for the help

OK, but start a new thread, please. This part of your problems seems to be resolved.
