A while back I downloaded a music file via Limewire.com (I know, not supposed to use it, I no longer have that program on my computer), and now it refuses to be deleted! When I right-click on the song file, not all of the usual options pop up (Only PLAY, OPEN, ADD TO WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER, PLAY WITH WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER, OPEN WITH, AND SEND TO show up) as if it's not a regular file. I have no idea what this file could be or how to get it off my computer, and any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated.

    Thanks for your time.

    Welcome to WindowsBBS;)

What happens when you highlight the file and hit the Delete Key on your keyboard?

Check the file attributes - it may be marked Read Only or System.

Re-install limewire, open the program and go to the library. Rename the music file, save it then delete as normal.

i would ignore it but the name of the file is EXTREMELY long, and it messes up the format of the folder it's in. it can't be renamed, moved, nothing. i'm going to try movonboot as soon as they validate my email.

i am forever indebted to you, Cope. moveonboot and unlocker both didn't work, like the file wasn't being recognized at all. i'm such a nut, though-- i downloaded limewire and tried to rename the file, but it wasn't showing up in my limewire library as being renamed. so i got frustrated and instantly uninstalled limewire. then, as i'm staring down this file in its original folder, i notice that it DID get renamed, it just wasn't registering in my limewire library! so then i REINSTALL limewire again, rename it (still not showing as renamed in limewire) and i look in the original folder, and its been magically turned into a normal file recognized by my computer! and now it's gone forever. i think i love you.

a small, dead file may seem like a little thing to some people, but most of my ocd manifests in organization, and this little file was really throwing me off. thank you much.
