    Hi,

I have been successful in creating images with TI in the past but have always used DVD media. I am now using an external HD to create an image with TI and find it strange, that it has been going on for seven hours and still shows that it has 17 hours to go. This can't be right. It is taking longer than when I was using DVDs. I am using a Vista laptop at the time.

    Any suggestions?

When running Acronis create/write process are you in ...
    Normal Widows mode?
    or
    Acronis Rescue Boot Disk?

Hi Dennis - I am not sure what you are referring to, but I do use a disk that boots into Acronis Loader. Is that the Rescue Boot disk?

Both Windows Mode and Rescue Boot Disk are acceptable approaches when creating images. The ONE time you MUST use Rescue Boot Disk is when your restoring a system drive.
First, let's get a general understating about your USB attached drive. Does it perform acceptable fast when used for simple file "Copy from - Copy to" requests. Example, highlight 50 mp3 music files from your computer and copy them to your external. In most cases this should take 30 to 90 seconds.
If the above is in the ballpark, my suspicion would lie in Rescue Boot Disk having a issue with your USB connection. Rescue Boot Disk loads a Linux environment, not windows.

    The easiest test ...
Computer running in normal Windows, external drive attached and active to system. Go to "All Programs" and start Acronis. Choose your normal image backup regime. Direct the OUTPUT to your external HDD. One setting you could change is file size to fit on CD/DVD is no longer necessary. One large file will fit on your external ... assuming external is formatted to NTFS. If FAT32, max file must be under 4GB.
With luck, your image backup would complete in less than hour.

    Hi Dennis

Sorry it took so long for me to get back. I tested the USB port by copying a bunch of MP3s as you suggested and it did copy 50 or so in 15 seconds.

I decided to try create image on the D:\ and it did so in thirty minutes. [:D]
After verification, (13 minutes) I sent the image to the external. That took twenty minutes. I am a happy camper.

Big Question - The image size is15 Gigs but the C:\ is 38 Gigs. Is this normal or do I have a problem?

    Thanks for your help.
