I have an ASUS A7V600 w/ 6 WDC SATA's; Only one drive has the OS, Win XP SP3; The others're plain DATA.

The mobo has only 2 SATA slots; Hence, I use controller cards. I had been using 2 Adaptec 1205SA's, and had been able to read the HDD temps w/ SpeedFan, Everest, etc. Just recently, I decided to replace the HDDs w/ larger sizes'; Along with the HDDs was a purchase of Adaptec 1210SA (RAID) from a vendor in Seattle, WA, far from where I live. The unit price quite so nice I decided to buy 3 of them and dump the 1205SA (no RAID).

After the installation and the file transfer done, I noticed I could read only the temp of C:\. The Windows' tools recognize all the HDDs' most info, except the temps of the DATA drives.

The C:\ drive is connected to the mobo's SATA1 port. The other HDDs are connected to the Adaptec's 1210SA's. (Only the difference between "BEFORE" and "NOW" I could say, is the controller cards are different besides the sizes of the DATA drives.)

I talked w/ a tech support personnel @ Adaptec; I was told my units were made back in 2003, and out of warranty; She also told me just "discussing about the prob" over the phone'd cost me 80 USD; I just couldn't take that amount. I also talked w/ WD tech support personnel & was told to use their DATA Lifeguard Diagnostic.

What did I do wrong? TIA,

Does the new controller card have temp sensors built into it?

I checked out the manual, and it does have temp. sensors
You want to make sure that you installed the driver software that came with the card. See the Adaptec site for details & downloads.

I did the driver inst. using 2 steps.

Used the Adaptec's "v. 1.00.08" and "v. 7.00.045A" on top of the 1st one. (The Adaptec's driver info at their page said so.) I did not use the driver came "within" the "included CD ".

Thanks, guys for the quick replies; Help me out!

Playing w/ the utility in BIOS did not make temps shown.

I uninstalled the drivers, demounted the cards; Then I started with changing the drivers to "v. 1.00.07" only, which read "Microsoft certified "; Then, connected just one slave SATA. That's what I have for awhile. I still do not see the DATA drives temps even after I played with the controller's management utility in the BIOS.

And this 1210SA, just hates the Japanese fonts; It hangs, I even had BSD several times when I shot Japanese-name files into some of the DATA drives. (Clue, here?)

I just don't want to "quit" repairing... I'm an auto mechanic for a long time. Even when I was doing the air pollution jobs, I rode bikes, repaired them myself. Bikes were the only thing I had. I did not have any car license 'till I was 26; When my father "begged" me, I begrudgingly took the car exam. But, never bought a single car while I was in Japan. Later, I became a pro in the auto world.

    Help me out!

I can only suggest you contact Adaptec support.

    But, but...

The Adaptec support, which may not solve my prob, will cost me 80 bucks. For that price, I could buy 2 more of the 1205SAs and "probably" get the temps shown in the tools.

BTW, my BSD, or bog-down, at Japanese-name file transers between the drives, disappeared after I took the 150MB/s-restriction jumpers off from the SATAs. (I was desperate...)

    Thanks Arie, at any rate,

    Kid

Well, I can only suggest drivers. If those don't work I'm out of ideas. Could be hardware related, could be driver related, who knows?

    Just got be the driver(s).

(So puzzled since the 1205SA's went w/o any prob.)

Hard to think all 3 of the cards are defective.

Oh, this's OT, but I like to mention... Don't ban me, plz; I had a 3Com Gigabit's 3C940, came "mounted on the mobo," which "off switch" got broken; I had been using the XP-Supplied driver for it first; When the switch started acting up, I changed the driver to Marvel's (Marvel's the original vendor). Thought the prob's solved, but after the SP3, it broke again. When I was "just about" to use a different NIC, I put a very old driver came with the mobo's CD. Ever since, the switch's working fine. I went through many driver failures. Now, "I" am failing to install the driver, I reckon.

I changed my tower to a Cosmos S recently; I hope the cooling in it's adequate, and I try to "somehow" make the cards transmit the temp info.

    Thanks again; Appreciated,

    Kid

    Just a follow-up:

Stuck an Adaptec 1205SA card & its driver in, and I, well, Everest, etc., see the info, incl. temp, OK; I d/loaded the "Storage Manager v4.30.16042" installer, hoping I get some grip; However, I haven't installed it yet. I have way so many probs around me I can't stick to the 1210SA thingy now. I wish the Adaptec Tech Support's a bit more "friendly ".
