I have attempted to download SP3 unsuccessfully (after disabling virus protection). I attempted the MS recommended Method 3 of reseting the registry and file permissions and received the following error messages n the Svcpack.log file - XXXX.XXX DoInstallation-DoRegistryUpdates failed. Is there a workaround to this issue - and is installing SP3 worth it?

Hi sgrant, are you on auto download or are you saving to desktop. It appears that if you download to desktop then shut down all AV and Spyware/Spam filters etc. disconnect from DSL/Router/modem and ensure system is malware free you have a better chance of updating to SP3. Yes, I would say it's worth updating as I have 5 Home comps all running OK with SP3 installed and they do seem to operate a little quicker than previously. Neil.

Why would you want to do that?

SGrant hi, if you have the XP CD download the full SP3 version from MS and slipstream it to your XP CD and do a repair install, just an other option.
