Although I can run movie maker OK I can no longer drag items to the story board - they just do not appear there - anyone any ideas for curing this?

That installs OK but when I try and import a video or image file I get an error message that it has not been possible to import the file due to unspecified error.
Seems my Vista may be ******* since clicking on most things now results in a frenzy of hard disk activity before anything happens.
    Thanks
    Martin

That seems to make me think of some sort checking program running as the program or file is opened.

If you have User Account Control disabled, try re-enabling it.

If you have more than one antivirus running, only one should run at a time (disable the other). Same with antispyware.

Try running SFC /scannow from an elevated command prompt.

Have tried all suggestions and the hard disk thrashing seems to have stopped although I still cannot get movie maker to work correctly - will purchase third party version I think
    Many thanks to all
