    Hi
I use windows 98 SE, IE 5 and outlook express to check my mail. I usually go to the MAIL icon and press the down arrow and go to NEW MESSAGE. Beginning today, when I choose NEW MESSAGE it takes me to YAHOO mail and the page where it asks for my user name and password. This never happened before today. If i choose the same icon (MAIL) and choose READ MAIL it takes me to OUTLOOK EXPRESS which is what I want.

I am going crazy cause I cant figure out why this is happening.
    Hope someone can help.

    Thank you:eek:

Go into Control Panel\Internet Options, click on the Programs tab, and check what is set for your email program. Yahoo may be there. You can easily change it to Outlook Express there.

    Hi
    Thanks for the reply.
I wish it was as easy as what you suggested, however, I have done that and it still takes me to yahoo mail when i choose New message. I even went as far as putting Yahoo Mail as my email program, saved the changes to see what would happen, and sure enough, READ MAIL and NEW MESSAGE did in fact, take me to yahoo. HOWEVER, when I chose Outlook Express for my email, and saved the changes, READ MAIL took me to Outlook Express, but NEW MESSAGE still took me to a YAHOO sign on screen.

I ran a virus scan but found nothing. I even ran the ADWARE program and there were "suspicious" files found which I really dont understand what they mean, however, I do not believe any were associated with Yahoo email.

    :(

    Hi sstaarzz
    Welcome to the boards!
Have you tried to repair Outlook Express?
Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click Add/Remove Programs.
In the list of installed programs, double-click Internet Explorer 5 and Internet Tools.
    Click Repair Internet Explorer.
When the process is finished, restart the computer.

If Ad-Aware found them , those files were adware, or spyware, but not viruses. Deleting them can affect the operation of such programs such as Go!zilla, Kazaa, Bonzi Buddy, and Gator among others, if you have them. Regardless, they are slowing down your internet connection. By the way, uninstalling the program that put those "suspicious" files on your system, usually does not uninstall the ad/spyware, and they aren't found in Add/Remove Programs.
Did you happen to install Yahoo Companion by the way? It puts a toolbar in IE, and probably would affect your email settings in IE.

If I choose to repair IE, do I choose the ADVANCED option and say to restore the previous installation of IE and the OE component to the last install? Will I lose all of my saved mail folders?

I have gone into the registry, checked entries, and as far as I can tell, everything points to OUTLOOK EXPRESS as the default, so why does NEW MESSAGE take me to sign into YAHOO MAIL.

I know if I call MS, not only will I be charged $35, but they will just have me reinstall IE/OE or upgrade to a newer version; easier than try to find where the problem is.

    Thanks for the ideas!!
