    Ramona, I moved some of my plugins from NS4.79 to Mozilla 1.0, including the Crescendo plugins, and the npmidi32.dll causes the mozilla to stop functioning. I deleted the crescendo plugins in the mozilla plugin folder and went to a link that had a greeting card playing a midi file. The site worked but I got no sound, but if I drag midi files to the mozilla application it asks me if I want to play it and if I say ok it brings up Windows media player and plays it.

    Will Crescendo work with mozilla? and is there a way to get midi files to play when I go to a site that has it playing in the background? Also, what about quicktime mov files?

    Thanks,

    Marvin

    From the Mozilla release notes, Compatibility Information section:

    http://www.mozilla.org/releases/mozilla1.1/#compatible

    As it states above, you will need to update crescendo if you are using 5.01. Otherwise it would appear to work.

    Crescendo?

    Have the 5.1 plugin, will check to see if I have the latest. Does it have to be in the Mozilla plugin folder or will it work from the netscape folder?

    Thanks,

    Marvin

    Hi Marvin,

    I copied my 4.79 Plugin folder to the Mozilla 1.1 Plugin folder, and the Netscape 7 Plugin folder.

    I have Crescendo 5.1 and have encountered no problems playing midi files. Crescendo works well with embedded files on my own pages, as well as playing midi files which are available for download and listening on various sites.

    I did disable npaudio.dll by renaming the file. For some reason I couldn't get Crescendo to work until I did so. You may not have a problem, but if you do, you might try the same.

    Let me know if I can be of further help.

    I believe there may be a preference that will allow you to use plugins from the netscape plugin directory, but I cannot recall what it is at the moment. I will look around and see if I can locate it. If not, you may need to either copy the plugins to mozilla's plugin directory, or in some cases reinstall if it won't work with a simple copy.

    tranquilo,

    Are you thinking of these scripts:

    Controls the scanning of the Navigator 4.x directory for plugins. When pref is missing, the default is to pickup popular plugins such as Flash, Shockwave, Acrobat, and Quicktime. If set to true, ALL plugins will be picked up and if set to false the scan will not happen at all.
    user_pref( "plugin.scan.4xPluginFolder ", false);

    Locate Java by scanning the Sun JRE installation directory with a minimum version.
    Note: Does not scan if security.enable_java is not true
    user_pref( "plugin.scan.SunJRE ", "1.3 ");

    Locate plugins by scanning the Adobe Acrobat installation directory with a minimum version
    user_pref( "plugin.scan.Acrobat ", "5.0 ");

    Locate plugins by scanning the Quicktime installation directory with a minimum version
    user_pref( "plugin.scan.Quicktime ", "5.0 ");

    Locate and scan the Window Media Player installation directory for plugins with a minimum version user_pref( "plugin.scan.WindowsMediaPlayer ", "7.0 ");

    Yes, I believe those are the settings.

    Crescendo w/Mozilla

    Ramona and Tranquilo, thanks for your help and input. I redownloaded the Crescendo 5.1 for Windows and when prompted installed it in the Mozilla Plugin folder. Crescendo now is working in Mozilla 1.0. I also downloaded and installed QT6.0 and it put its plugin in the Mozilla plugin folder and the netscape Plugin folder w/o prompting me. The adobe acrobat plugin was captured from netscape when I installed Mozilla 1.0.

    New question, would there be any problems if I installed Mozilla 1.1 over the 1.0?

    Thanks,

    Marvin:D

    You may be able to install 1.1 over 1.0 without installing. I usually uninstall first, but that is mainly because I use the zip file rather than the installer. However I use the same profile without incident.

    If you have installed any extra components, such as anything from http://www.mozdev.org , you may need to reinstall them if you decide to uninstall mozilla 1.0.
