... the application in order to re-install it ?

I only have the Vista recovery disk as issued by Toshiba which only allows a new install.

Despite the efforts of everyone to fix the problem regarding mail not being sent until I exit the application and then restart it, the problem is still there.

I would like to just reinstall it to see if the problem goes away.

Would Windows Live Mail, if installed, provide the same function and look the same ?

    No, you can't download it.

There is an elaborate way to "reset" WM in Vista. (Make sure you have a backup of your messages/settings if you want to re-import them at a later stage).

    • Make sure that Windows Mail is closed.
    • In Start Search type regedit and press Enter
    • When Regedit is open, go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows Mail
    • In the left pane, right click on Windows Mail and click Delete.
    • Close Regedit
    • Open a Windows Explorer window and click Organize > Folder and Search Options.
    • Select the View tab and select Show hidden files and folders & Uncheck Hide extensions for known file types and click OK.
    • Sill in Windows Explorer, navigate to C:\Users\{your username}\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Mail
    • Open the Windows Mail folder and Delete all the contents (files and folders) inside the folder. Do not delete the Windows Mail folder itself.
    • Restart the computer.
    • When Vista has restarted, open Windows Mail and when loaded, close it again.
    • Windows Mail should now have been rebuild (registry settings & message store). You can now re-import your data you have backed up before.

Many thanks - the PC belongs to my next door neighbour so I will have to make arrangements to visit - I will let you know what happens.
