I would like to know if using an IDE Hard disk on a Core 2 Duo processor and 1 gig ram will slow down my system.

I upgraded my desktop but i did not include the hard disk so im still using IDE instead of SATA. I don't think I am reaping the benefits of my upgrade because my brother's laptop runs faster on a dual core processor and 1 gig ram.

It would depends on the specs of the IDE drive....If its a couple year old 7200 rpm drive it would pretty much run as well as a SATA drive.

Which OS are you running? If its Vista, you need to add More Ram.

You probably mean 5400....So, upgrading to a 7200 rpm drive would be a very nice increase.

And a drive with an 8Mb cache, or 16 if you can get it.

Go with SATA since days of IDE are numbered.
