password is rejected

    Need help with son's IBM Thinkpad using Windows XP.

    When booting up tonight, the welcome screen had changed and the password will not be accepted. No one else uses this pc and he has not changed the log on password. Can you help? He needs it to take to school next week!

    Already did all the above. Was told by our technical support that IBM's have a tendency to do this occasionally.

    I ended up doing a factory reset. Thankfully everything was backed up.
