[Cannot open WMP11-NotePad-WordPad-Paint after] Windows Updates

    After installing Windows Updates last week (8-14-08) I am no longer able to open Windows Media11-NotePad-WordPad-Paint. I have been in touch with Microsoft but at this time they can' fix it..This happened on both my computers, they are not networked. I have XP PRO_SP3--XP Media Edition-SP3:mad:

    drs23 - Welcome to the Board :)

    have you uninstalled last week's updates that are uninstallable through Add/Remove Programs?

    Have you considerd a System Restore to a date prior to the updates?

    Windows Updates

    I have removed all updates-run system Restore-Reinstalled Windows, I don't know everything that Microsoft did while they had control of the computer. They said the computer was very clean so is not being caused by malware

    Reinstalled Windows as in Repaired Windows or a fresh install with format? Did you make this reinstallation before or after MS took control?

    Are the executable files for these programs actually on your drive?

    And when you try to run them what is the error message, if any?

    I reinstalled Windows from a disk,while I was in connection with Microsoft and after this didn't work they have not come up with a fix

    Windows Updates

    When I click on the icon for the WM-Notepad-WordPad-Paint, nothing happens. There is no hour glass no error message. they are installed because I can open a WMA attachment and it opens in WM

    If you right click on Notepad in Start > Programs > Accessories > Notepad what do the Properties show for the path? - screenshot.

    WM-NotePad will not open

    You ask about the location it is---%SystemRoot%\system32\notepad.exe
