[Resolved]files APTemp/APQ that freezes my computer and can't get rid of

    hi.

i've been having problems lately with these weird types of files. They're in a folder APTemp and the files are called either APQA, APQD, APQ9 (along those lines) and i can't get rid of them. Everytime I try looking for the files manually, I find them but when I click on the files, they freeze up my computer and I have to restart. There are even times when i try to virus scan (mcafee & Kaspersky scan) the entire computer and by the time it comes across those files, the virus scan will freeze and i'll have to shut it down. it has even shut down my firewall and i can't put it back on.

can anyone help me and find a solution to fix it? i don't know if its a virus or something. thanks.

    Hi imandy
    Welcome to Windowsbbs.

The first thing you need to do is remove 1 of your Anti-Virus programs.
    McAfee
    Symantec - Norton

They can conflict with each other and actually give you less protection and cause system problems.

Let me know which one you choose to remove and we'll go from there.

    Thanks
    Geri

    Hi imandy

Do you have Symantec Internet security suite or just their Anti-Virus program?

If you have the suite you should have a firewall with it. Check your version and see what it is you have installed.

After removing McAfee make sure Norton is up to date and then run a full System scan deleting anything it finds.

The folder APTemp belongs to Symantec.

If you still receive the warning after doing the above then do this.

Please follow the instructions below to download and run the Norton Scanner, Make sure that no other applications are open after you download the file.

    1. Create a new folder on your desktop and name it "Norton Scanner. "

    2. Using Internet Explorer, click on the link below to access the Norton Scanner. Choose "Save File" and save it to the Norton scanner folder on your Desktop.

    Norton Scanner

    3. Double-click on the "Norton Security Scan" file and save the extracted files to the folder you created on your desktop.

    4. When all of the files have be decompressed, double-click on the file "NSS" to launch the Norton Security Scanner.

    5. Read and accept the License agreement.

    6. Choose "Full System Scan" and then select "Start Scan." The scanner will then download the updated definition files and will scan all of the files on your computer. Please NOTE, depending on how many files are on your system, the scan may take a while. When the scan is complete, click on the "Action Required" tab and follow the instructions.

Let me know how that goes.

    Thanks

    Hi
It is best to make sure you are no longer getting these warning before downloading a firewall.

    These are both free.

I use Comodo myself and find it work quite well.
Go with the basic set up and it won't bug you to death ever time you do anything.

There is also Zonealarm, though it seems to have had a few issues lately.

    Hi imandy
That's good to hear, you're welcome.

Remember to go with the basic set up or you'll be bugged to death with it asking permissions for ever little thing.

    I'll mark this one resolved.
