My OS is W2k with MP9 installed. Here's the problem. After installing MP9 I wanted to test it with a variety of small video files. One of them was an AVI file. When MP9 opened to play the file the first frame was frozen in the center of MP9. In the upper left hand corner of the screen the file was running perfectly. After a little research the file that was playing was using MP6.4 even though I selected AVI files to be player with MP9. No files are selected to run with MP6.4. With a W2k OS MP6.4 can not be deleted. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Ditto on this problem. I've run through every possible codec, and at this time think the issue could be from an old game my children are using. However, I have the same problem with Media Player Classic, or Realplayer.
Doesn't matter what I use, any avi locks up.

I did not fix the MP9 problem, however I found a way of getting around it and it works like a charm. I downloaded and installed the VCL MP.

    http://www.videolan.org/vlc/

After it was installed I went back to MP9 rechecked all files "except" .avi. The beauty of VCL is the fact it can also play Quicktime .mov files. My original problem with MP9 was actually a blessing in disguise. I can now play any file I want.

    similar fix

I went in a similar direction. I've discovered that MP9 and real player and quicktime player all lock up as soon as I open any avi file. I loaded the combined community codec pack, and the zoom player works fine. I guess if I knew what the difference was between the players, I would know what was wrong. But I don't, so I don't.
Besides, I can watch video now, anyway.
