    Hello,

I have an issue with my laptop, it runs windows xp and the laptop is fairly new 2 years isn't old is it? So, windows starts goes to the toshiba screen then shuts down. It doesn't stay on for more than 7-10 seconds. Can't boot from the cd rom for it doesn't stay on long enough... grr! Help? would love to get it up and running in expensively, for I'd like to give it to my son.

    Anyhow suggestions ?

My first thought would be a weak/failing PSU. Startup process applies the highest electrical demand.
BUT, you are using a laptop, so we could also have a bad battery ... you have tried powering up with laptop plugged into to wall outlet? I have no immediate laptop experience or electrical trouble shooting with them. But if the electrical flow must pass through the battery WHEN plugged into wall current, again a bad/shorted battery could still cause powerup problems. Also during this period, detach ALL USB cables / external monitors if any attached.

NOTE: Please check to see if any warranty is active on notebook ... if yes, should be your first contact.

NOTE 2: Does your laptop REQUIRE battery installed when connected to wall outlet? If this is allowed, REMOVE battery and try starting up laptop. This test would eliminate any issues with battery and isolate the problem.
