I think the mouse is haunted

I am left handed but learned to use a right handed mouse on the left side of my keyboard (left click key on the left).

I am running a fresh install of XPP on a Dell Dimension P4 2.4 Ghz, 512 Meg, 80 Gb HDD fully updated with SP3.

From time to time (random occurrence) when I left click (to take an action) the context menu comes up and the action does not happen. If I click elsewhere tp clear the menu and left click again the action is performed.

I have two mice - a generic laser mouse and a IBM mechanical (ball). Neither one requires unique software. The problem exists with both.

Can anyone give me an idea as to what might be happening?

My real fear is that it is a PEBKAC error  or in my case PEBMAC

    Thanks

Use the right hand for the mouse! (pun)

If at one time you had configured the mouse for left hand use and then switched back to right hand use, there may have been some settings that did not clear. I'd try setting it up for all defaults.

Thanks Tony. I didn't change any settings from default during the Windows installation so setting it back to default shouldn't make any difference. I shall try on Monday when I am back in the office.
