Installed Norton Anti-Virus

Hi I'm just wondering if by installing the Norton Internet Security 2007 program. I'm seeing that my PC has slowed down where it is very noticeable. Especially at start up. What can I do to speed it back up like it was before I installed the program.

I'm using the XP program. My Microsoft 2007 also is very slow connecting.

Hi Garry, I can back up what Pete said in his reply. I had no end of trouble installing NIS 2007 which included a Techo from Symantec spending 3½ hours on remote control of my computer to get all the rubbish out from 2004 & 2006 NAV. After using NIS 2007 for the 12 month period, my computer got so slow on Start, that nearly 5 mins was the norm! I used Mike Flynns instructions to clean out the PC completely before installing AVG7.5. This worked OK until I downloaded and installed AVG 8.0. This had a conflict with SP3, so finally I uninstalled AVG and I am currently using Avast without any problems and Startup only takes 55 -60 seconds. If you intend to uninstall Symantec I would strongly advise you to search for Mike's instructions as it's amazing how deep into the Root of your computer Norton & Symantec will be. lol Neil.

A system slowdown is generally caused by either an infection, a software conflict or a lack of system resources. Make sure that you have Windows XP Service Pack 2 and all Microsoft security patches applied to Windows XP.

Make sure that the Windows firewall is disabled, as having two firewalls running at the same time will cause conflicts. Also make sure that you do not have any other third party antivirus or internet security applications installed, as they can cause conflicts with Norton Internet Security.

In regards to Norton Internet Security 2007, as long as you have a valid subscription, you are entitled to a free update to Norton Internet Security 2008, which has many enhancements over the 2007 version. To update, please visit the Norton Update Center.

After the update is complete, manually run LiveUpdate to make sure that all of the latest program and definition files are updated, and then perform a Full System Scan with Norton internet Security.

I had Norton installed on the computer when I first purchased it.A few weeks later I got an e-mail from Norton stating that there had been an error in the installation and what I should do to correct it.Since I was a beginner I filed the notice away and began having problems with my Outlook.Much later I found out that the Outlook problems were caused by Norton.

At the end of my six month trial period I renewed Norton and was unable to install it myself.I paid for a year's subscription which was not active since I was unable to install Norton myself.

Norton subscribed itself to me in the spring of this year and I had a panic of a time unsubscribing myself.I would never choose Norton again.

 

Norton Internet Security 2008

Hello--I thought I would thank everyone for there help with the problem I was experiencing with my PC running so slow after installing this program I thought for sure I would have to uninstall it due to the 10 minute start up time it took to hook into the internet.

After uninstalling several anti-virus programs it still was running slow but when I went to my start up programs and uncheck half of them probably 7 or so then I was noticing better performance with my computer. Then I defragment my media files and ran it through the error checking program on my XP and then I was seeing some good results.
