Has anyone here got experience in using nLite. It is quite a long story, I was trying to get a SATA HD running in a system with no SATA ports so I got a PCI SATA controller installed it and booted up, but XP could not install the new hardware connected it to a 80Gig Seagate SATA drive and try again same result. As I have no driver CD for this mobo I read about nLite and that you can Slipstream SATA drivers onto a XP CD I already had SP3 Slipstreamed onto my XP I downloaded the Intel SATA drivers that should work with most mobos and slipsteamed them with no problems. So now I have a XP CD with SP3 and SATA drivers install went smooth start up Windows and AVG 7.5 and all hell breaks loose Virus Virus Virus I put them all into Quarantine then Windows tells me the system is not operable anymore as there are necessary windows system files missing. No boot no nothing just black screen.
Not a big problem as I have a Acronis Image from before the experiment and I was able to bring it all back to as it was before.
Question is what is in nLite and the Intel SATA drivers that AVG thinks is Viruses.

    Hi Hawk

I would consider one virus a "possible" false positive in this case, but many, "no" there must be Viri on the SP3 Slipstreamed CD.

    I would do the below.

Run you local Virus scanner AVG? on the Nlite cd followed by a Kaspesky online that includes this CD.

    then

Do the same on the non Nlite SP3 CD.

If Viri found on Nlite CD and not on SP3 CD then some how Viri is coming in with the SATA drivers.

Confirm all the above and I will give you a way to get the SATA drivers and more without using the drivers you have.

Check the Quarantine list for the files. One problem with the free version of AVG is it does not include an option to exclude.

    Hi Hawk

OK here you go, after your tests from above!

I assume you are doing an unattended install.

I would build another nLite disk remove the steps for slipstreaming your SATA drivers and do the below instead.

    http://driverpacks.net/DriverPacks/

Now you will have drivers for many brands of SATA plus all kinds of other HW you may add to Windows later.

There are instructions on the Driver Pack site for slipstreaming with nLite. The nLite site also has info on the Driver Pack slipstreaming.

Don't jump until you find out about the Viri as it may have infected more than the CD!

What are the results of the scans?

Hi Mike, well I have tested the CD SP3+Intel drivers on 3 different machines with 3 different AV programs AVG 8 - AVG 7.5 - and Avira and it came up clean every-time 100% no warnings nothing.

OK The Driver Pack would give you more, but to use this one seems all you need to do is rebuild with nLite without AVG as it is detecting False positives.

    Add AVG back after booting!

Hi Mike, well I integrated the driver pack with the SATA drivers into the XP SP3 CD (so simple with nLite and driver pack) went as smooth as Silk and so did the Install.
Installed it onto an old 40 GIG Seagate I had lying around, installed Avast AV and no indication of any Viri. So it must have been all false Alarms.
XP picked up the SATA PCI Controller Install new Hardware, but unfortunately the Mobo's BIOS does not recognize the SATA drive, on boot up I get "No Array Is Defined" there is nothing in the BIOS, to enable detect IDE drives comes up 0. As it is a older Foxcon Board it is no longer on Foxcon's List for driver updates or BIOS update.
I have a spare Mobo MSI- MS-6570K7N2G I will install that and see how I go with that.
As I will be using the same Video Card I might try and Integrate the driver pack for ATI drivers as well all in one just to see how it will go.
    Cheers

    Hi Hawk

    I don't understand.

    1. It booted off an IDE port/drive (you said older drive) with nothing connected to the SATA controler?

    2. It boots to XP but gives this error
but does boot into a working XP!

    3. Are you trying to use RAID?

Perhaps now you need to install the specific software that came with the controller, the controller handles the SATA not the BIOS (in this case of an addon PCI Card).

If you are in fact booting from IDE you might try uninstalling the SATA controller then the specific SATA drivers from the CD.

Hi Mike, Yes XP Pro SP3 + Driver Pack is booting off the old IDE drive. After loading this version of XP I installed the PCI SATA - IDE Combo Controller and after rebooting XP installed it (Found new Hardware installing drivers - Your new Hardware is now installed and ready to use)
When I connect the SATA drive to the PCI controller on boot it shows "No Array is defined" when the drive is not connected it shows " No drive attached to FastTrack controller. The BIOS is not installed ".
My Device Manager shows under SCSI and RAID controllers
    1. Windows Promise RAID Console SCSI Processor Device
    2. Win XP Promise FastTrack376 Controller.
All I really wanted was to be able to use this SATA drive just like I use an IDE drive.
Unfortunately there was no CD with this Controller.
I don't think this board is capable of recognizing SATA drives.
    cheers

You are not the first to be whupped by SATA! I have that same controller and if the correct drivers are installed it will work. The SATA BIOS is on the controller.

When researching do not confuse Motherboard OnBoard SATA with PCI addon controllers. The addon controllers like you have are made to add to computers that have no BIOS support!

You would likely have the same issue with another newer MB!

Drivers you will need to view some AD's to d/l free!

I think you need to do a repair install hit F6 and put in the Sata floppy!

Hi there Mike, many thanks for the very valuable links, and it looks like the murky waters are slowly receding.
I have seen during the boot the line ”Control-F” Fast Build Utility but never knew what it was until reading through the links.
Now please stick with me as I am now entering unknown territory. I have done Ctrl. F and the Fast Track Utility has come up, but I can not yet find my around in it as I am not familiar with the options offered.
The Array can see the SATA drive that I have connected to the controller I think, the drive is an 80 Gig Seagate.
    There are 5 segments available

    Auto Setup ...............................................................................[1]
    Optimize Array for.....................................................PERFORMANCE
    Mode………………………………………………………….Stripe
    Spare Drive…………………………………………………….0
    Drive(s) used in Array……………………………………1
Array Disk Capacity………………………………… 80026 MB (correct)

    View Drive Assignments............................................................... [2]
Channel: ID Drive Model Capacity Assignment Mode

    Define Array.............................................................................. [3]
Array No Raid Mode Total Drv Capacity Status
    Array 1 to 4
    Remark on bottom:
Note: *--- Bootable Array (Space) Change Boot Drive
    (there are no entries)

    Delete Array................................................................................. [4]
    Same as [2] no entries

    Rebuild Array................................................................................ [5]
    Same as [4] no entries

Now it looks that I don’t want mirror or stripe but I could not find an custom / advanced option to make the array contain just one disk.
My ideal option would be know how to make it either for slave or Boot Drive load OS

In an new fresh install would you say that the necessary drivers are on the CD nLite + Driver Pack or do you think the drivers from the link Driver Guide are still needed on an floppy F6.
Just to remind you that the XP Pro SP3 +driver pack setup on the HD that I am using is purely for experimentation so if it gets stuffed up it won’t matter I’ll just Format and start a fresh.
Looking forward to picking more of your Brains.
