I received an email that directed me to view an airplane ticket that I had not purchased. bad mistake Nortons Blocked it but somehow I installed Anti virus xp 2008 Subsequent scans by Nortons showed no infection but Anti virus xp 2008 keeps popping up . I can not delete it using the remove software function. I can not use Display function to fix background and Screen saver. I ran Defender and that did not show any infection.. I need to remove Anti Virus Xp 2008 from my computer

    Read this link first.

    http://www.windowsbbs.com/malware-virus-removal/75854-antivirus-xp-2008-a.html

Get the software mentioned (MBAM) and try it if you can get it run.
Seems like once the virus reaches a certain point, nothing will run but
i've seen many different conditions (all bad) with this virus.

Also you might try getting AVG 8 (the free version) just be sure to disable
any other virus detection software before running it. The AVG scan will take
some time depending on your system speed and how much info on the HD.

Of the 4 cases i've worked on, 3 had to have the OS re-installed. The other
system was corrected by AVG8 but the virus was caught early on.

There are people here with more knowledge about this than me. So, you
might want to see what other replies you get first.

    good luck,
    savagcl

    Hi Bill
    Welcome to Windowsbbs. :)

Please do this and this only for now. DO NOT download and run Deckards System Scanner unless told to do so.

Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware (MBAM) from here or here and save the file to your desktop.

Double click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
    • Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
    • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
    • Once the program has loaded, select 'Perform Quick Scan', then click Scan.
    • The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
    • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
    • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
    • When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart. (See Note below)
    • The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
    • Post the entire report in your next reply along with a fresh HijackThis log.

Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts. Click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process. If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately.

    Now this.

Download a copy of HijackThis installer from here and save it to your Desktop.

    1. Save HJTInstall.exe to your desktop.
    2. Double-click on the HJTintall.exe icon on your desktop.
(Let it install to the default location C:\Program Files\Hijackthis)
    3. Continue to click Next in the setup dialogue boxes until you get to the Select Additional Tasks dialogue.
    4. Put a check by Create a desktop icon and then click Next again.
    5. Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.
    6. At the final dialogue box click Finish and it will launch HijackThis.
    7. Click on the Do a system scan and save a log file button.
(It will scan and the log should open in Notepad.)
    8. Click on "Edit" > "Select All" to highlight the entire Notepad contents.
    9. Then click on "Edit" > "Copy ".
    10. Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
(Right-click in the message body field and select "Paste ".)
CAUTION: DO NOT have HijackThis "fix" anything without carefully following expert guidance. Otherwise, you might render your computer unstable or even unbootable. Most of what HijackThis finds will be harmless or even required.

Please post the MBAM log and the HJT log.

    Thanks
    Geri
