I just did a clean install of Media Center XP and installed SP2 & SP3. Installed all other programs: no problems. But, even though I reinstalled my Xerox printer, every time I boot I get the "New Hardware" message. I have no problems using the printer, so the driver is there...so what's with the constant message to install the printer? Any advice appreciated!

    printer port

The printer uses the only parallel port and I should have stated that. So, I can't change usb ports.

    Welcome to the board Joann,

Not knowing anything about your printer other than the Brand name makes this somewhat speculative but for starters, I'd suggest if its just a basic printer (not an all-in-one) that you go to Start > Settings > Printers & Faxes and remove (delete) any instances of a Xerox printer. Then shut your machine down and disconnect your parallel printer cable. Now, fire your computer back up with no printer attached. Then you can shut down again and reconnect that parallel cable and restart. Windows should redetect your printer once and only once. Please advise what happens.

If this is an all-in-one, disregard the above and post back with specifics and model #.

    ;)

reply to Rockster2U re: "new hardware found" irritating message

    Hi Rockster2U!
I've been away and just read your very helpful post. I will do just as you instructed (very clear instructions, thank you) and then let you know what happens. The printer is Xerox WorkCentre XD120f - mostly known as a great copier and laser printer.
Again, thanks, and I will get back to you.
    JoAnn:rolleyes:

OK, now that we've got a specific model, I'd say mickzer has some very specific instructions. Note the references to uninstalling the software through add/remove programs and upon a restart, canceling out of the wizard when you get hit with new hardware detected and lastly, doing a manual installation.

    Nice post mickzer.

    ;)
