    simple file transfer
I have a database file on the DOS PC <c:\item.dat>
and I need it on the windows PC; I can do this using Zip disks but networking would make my life easier.

Not sure if Lantastic would talk to Windows and you have a major problem due to different media [coax & STP].

Lantastic talking to TCP/IP is your main problem. It appears to be possible to get Lantastic talking to a Win95 PC. I'd be tempted find an old PC and use that as a bridge. Put a second NIC in it.

Getting network kit that will talk to thin ethernet (coax) is getting difficult, but you should be able to find second hand NIC.

The perfect bridge would be an old Win95 PC with a coax NIC. Add a second new NIC for the 2000 to 95 network.

Coax NIC -> Darn...I knew I shouldn't have thrown away all those 3Com cards I had for years and years.

Been a very long time but I had a couple of Clients that used Lantastic.

The COAX NIC is not required by Lantastic.

Do some research, for an Ethernet NIC with DOS drivers.

    Then 2 things:

On 2K machine install Netbeui and IPX.

Also if I remember Lantastic at one time had Client that installed on the non Lantastic machine.

Well if you are opening the old PC to install a LAN card, won't it be faster to remove the hard disk from your old computer, attach it to Win2k box and copy the data ?

I am presuming its a one time job.

No, it is not a one time job. would need to be done daily.

It will be a little before I can devote time to this project, but I'll post as soon as I have results.

Thanks all for suggestions so far.
