speakers stopped working

    i hope this is the right place to post.

    my speakers have just stopped playing any sound.
    they are desk top speakers and are connected iv checked to make sure there
    not muted. but im at a loss any suggestion?:)

    Well, start at the begining.

    do you have another pair of speakers or a head set you can use to test the port?

    Are you certain they are plugged into the correct port?
    Is the power source connected and turned on?

    If you go to control panel and open sounds and click on the "Sounds" tab, you can select a sound event. When you click on the sound event (one that has a sound file associated with it, is the play button enabled or grey?
    It is important to make sure you select one that has a file associated with it.

    In device manager, are there any devices with yellow ? marks or Red x marks?

    Has anything recently changed or added?
