This is my second thread and i think its in the right place..If its not im sorry but i need help fast.. This is the story: I got a Compaq 4090US Series 4000 PC, i got it back in 2001 and it has Windows Me.. it went down (check my other thread) and i did a factory restore and got it up and running again. Found out that the CD driver that came with it is bad and was going to get another Cd drive/ writer and somene said just get a DVD-Rom Drive/Writer insted so you can watch DVDs and play your music too.. SO, i said what the hell...... Went and purchased a Sony DVD/CD Rewritable Drive DRU-840A and connected it to the same cable that went to the CD drive.. Put in a DVD movie, Real Player started and had a error message "The DVD cannot be played. Key exchange for DVD copy protection failed." A DVD disc does not show up in Windows Media Player.. It says "NO DISC ".. I can play CDs ok but no DVDs.. In <My Computer> it says Drive E and has the name of the disc/movie (i.e Title of movie) but still can't play it. Im thinking about just taking the DVD Drive back to the store and get a reg CD drive and not even continue to try to get the DVD drive to work.. What do i do?

My suggestion for that is to make sure the antivirus is disabled before you run the installation.

Check the system requirements for the program. You can usually find them in the program's folder on the installation disk, otherwise you will need to look them up for the programs version at the manufacturer's website (a quick websearch may reveal them).

There is another thread on the subject running in this forum for Win 98, but I don't think it is resolved yet.

I'll try that.. Downloaded the VLC media player.. and i can't install it.. error comes up "wXWidgets Fatal Error : This program uses Unicode but is not using unicow.dll correctly and so cannot work under current operating system. Please contack the program author for an updated verison. Program aborted. " So i downloaded DivX and it plays my dvd-R's that i recorded from my dvd recorder on my tv but no sound. It will not play DVDs (movies). Downloaded other things and still nothing.. So, im guessing here that my system just ain't set up for a dvd driver. Just take it back and get a Cd drive right? 'Cause nothing that im doing is helping me and plus my nerves are just about shot when it comes to this computer....................
