I am trying to use my personal images that are stored online. As long as I am using these images on my web site at Tripod or Angelfire, the images will appear. However, if I try to use the image on another site, the only thing that appears is their logo.
:( So I need advice as to where I can store the images for use elsewhere like in a site ring block or on a message board under my id, for example. I already checked with my ISP and they do not store images. There must be places on the Intenet that allow for storing images to be used on any site. Any ideas!

    Bunches...:)

MSBooch, there are bunches of ways to do this..
Do you know how to write HTML web page...?

Do a Metacrawler search for free web pages.
Put you photos up on a 20 Meg to 50 Meg server, under access to an HTML web page album...

    ice.prohosting.com
Is one, you can put the images up on it, accessing them from the index.htm web page.

You can create or write your web page the way you want it, then wehn you have it nailed down the way you want, upload using FTP.

Really is far easier than it seems. But you can access the photo from anywhere else, either by going to your site, and browsing or by hotlink the photo from your online web site....

If you need further help, give a shout, or e-mail me.

    addendum

hotlinking the photo is the part of the question you wanted...

That is the answer you were asking for.

The ice prohosting, puts either a banner at the top of each and every page, OR they put a pop up window on each and every page. You designate what you want.
Me I use frames extensively, and I end up with banners all over the place, but I found that I could place a 1x1 pixel pic expanded to cover the whole area I am writing to, and it covers the banner.
What I do next is write over the top of my invented backgrou minus the banner.
Now they permit me to do this, because on ONE window I have designated to have a pop up window for their ads.

In which this leaves me with a basically clean site, and one pop up window....

Now putting up pages full of images is easy, just configure the background pic for the window of the browser, then designate with html code exactly on each page you want you images..
Now you CAN save a bit of space on the web page you know..

That is in designing the web page, show each image far smaller than it is, Thumbnail, do NOT change the size of the image. just the shown image.
Have a mouse over pop up that when your mouse travels over the image, a pop up window shows in a new web page ONLY that one photo, then when you remove the mouse, it disappears... or stays you decide.
Got the code if you want..

    I have pictures at http://www.printroom.com/

You can only have .jpg but you can have a mister password so only you can get to them.
You can have another password for each album you make or you can leave them unlock so anyone can see them. But then again just make a new password and give it to who you want to see the albums.

Do if you do have images it changes things when you right click the images to save it. So you get a black image.
But what you do is pick save-as and add .jpg to the name and it will save it the right way.

In a manner of speaking Hewee, you are right, that is one way to go, but the question as she stated it, was she wanted to access the pics to use on BBS's and other places like on here...

As I suggested, put the photos in a web page album, In this manner the ISP does not Wipe the unlinked jpg gif, icon or whatever you are trying to link...

Then all she has to do to hot link the pic, is direct reference the web link, regardless of where on the web she is trying to communicate with this picture.

The manner at the photo album link you suggested, I am not certain it would work for a hotlink.... It might, but you have to KNOW exactly what the html address is for the hotlink to work regardless of within a web page for normal viewing, Or at a photo album site...:)

Example, just to see if this works...?

Nope, I have only jpg accessable, and am not familiar enough with vbcodes to swing it..

    [img ] http://ice.prohosting.com/~freeflyt/luz.gif [ /img]

That is the code that vbcode says I should use, but it is not showing the photo...OH Well.

I KNOW I can do it with Midi's... that is easy...

Jerry: I'm getting a 404 for the link you posted. Is the URL correct?

The IMG code should work with any image format.

    Experiment: [IMG]

It works for GIF's. Check the URL.

    Sent private message on that.

Isent you aprivate message, not sure if it went through, I have a background program running that I need to try to get tamed..
    XP does not like it.

But as I said, the URLK is to my web site, which is functional.
The luz.gif is a gif image on the basic start fodler same as the index.html file
Why this is not working the way it is supposed to, I have absolutely NO idea, just does not like me. :)

It seems to me that there has been some misunderstanding as to the original posters question.

I believe he understands how to write a HTML img tag, but it's just that some of the free Web-space providers will not allow you to link images outside their domains, ie. if you get space on the tripod or Angelfire servers and you store your images there, but put the HTML pages on your own server (for instance to avoid the popups) you will only get the Tripod or Angelfire logos in the image placeholders. While the images work perfectly fine if you have both images and HTML on the same server.

This is done for a number of reasons but mostly to save bandwidth i believe, especially since you can link to the same image from an almost indefinete number of locations it can create a large strain on the bandwidth - without getting to show the banners or the pop-ups which is how most of the free space providers are sponsored.

As to the question as I understand it, it seems that Freeservers allows linking outside their own domain as demonstrated (hopefully) by the ICQ flower above.

If I have misunderstood I apologize.

    Sorry for the misleading..

Sorry for the misleading, I mespelled the luz.gif, it is Luz.gif
with a capitol. however wehn you use the link to go to the web page it does work, but as laage says, you just can't link to images on that server or a number of others.

If I was paying fro the Web site, then I would not have the problem, I do not believe anyway. but that is one of the differenfces between paying for something and getting it for free.

However.. The question was answered, and tendered by a number of people. The html code was correct, that part was right.
The server was wrong, but that is my problem...:)

She needs a server, Laage suggestion freeservers and that is a possiblity. Check into it, and go for it.

It appears that Prohost is one of those that doesn't allow accessing graphics from outside its own web pages.

If one visits the webpage and the graphic is stored in the browser's cache, it may appear to be displaying from a link outside of Prohost, but with a cleared cache, trying to access the graphic results in a 404 if it's done via a blank browser page, or a blank spot on a webpage if done from within HTML.

I did a test post in this thread (now deleted). The HTML for this thread did call for the graphic to be shown, but it was absent on-screen.

Freeservers apparently offers the no-charge web pages as a limited version of their paid pages, on the hope that the customers will want to upgrade.
    Why Is It Free?

Since they have income from the "Premium Hosting ", they might consider it not worth the effort to put restrictions on linking from outside.

That's a reasonable approach for a site with steady income, inasmuch as personal pages of the sort usually found in their free section don't represent a significant bandwidth load "” family and friends and an occasional surfer, mostly.

This is unlike the sites such as Tripod and Angelfire that are primarily or exclusively free but advertizing-supported.

    Linked...

You are right DoctorDoom, however as well, from experience, I ahve also found that all items on a web page need to be used by the web page for that URL.
Does not matter if you just have the one index.html, showing all photos on your URL this does not matter, they want the images linked..... Of course it is easy to forget to delete them after useing them and moving on..
If she were to create a web page, gallery, so to speak, that would more than satisfy many ISP's.

Then just direct link the gif jpg in question from whatever BBS she wants to connect to.
But as we found out, icw.prohosting is not one that permits it....
    Oh we..lll:eek:

They offer 500 meg of web space free.

I use these and my hotlinks work.

    By the way....

You may have to create a home page using some of the images to satisfy the host's as Jerry M says.

DoctorDoom... I have a freservers free account and they do not allow hotlinking at all.

*edit* sometimes the hotlink works but as soon as they catch it it's stopped.

If you provide your image link with an absolute URL, it should be no problems. Absolute URL mean the full path of your link. Eg, http://www.mywebpage.biz/image.gif

    "Join the hosting revolution! "

They provide a Free service web space, and you use your images on the page as I suggested, but they permit hot-linking the image across the net, provided you abide by the rules, no ****, and no illegal Wares...

If you run a good clean site, you won't hear a word from them...

Knew I could find one if I looked for it....:)

Many thanks to all of you for your suggestions of where I can store images. Yes, linking is the key here. I have setup some images via a web page at prohosting. The problem here as stated by one of you is whether the link I am using is coming from my hard disk or is it really coming from prohosting. I can check this on another computer and if the image comes up, I can assume it comes from prohosting.
Another site called BayPal.com lets you store images but only for two weeks. Bummer! Let me look at freeservers and gizba. I just don't want to store my image, then link to it and my image is dropped in a few weeks(like BayPal) or the space shows only the logo for the site.
Like I said before, I appreciate everyone's ideas and one of these will surely work. :)

    JerryM,

Ya for linking like so many sites now you can't because they don't like it.

    DoctorDoom,

Hey thanks for the "Guide to Online Photo Albums" link.

    wellmashed,

Nice but no thanks. I got pop up after pop up from that site and had a hard time just closing down 7 or more windows.
