    Hello,

Perhaps I can first say thanks for the excellent post on thread:

    http://www.windowsbbs.com/showthread.php?p=175971

    ..and the debugwiz file too.

This was especially useful to me because despite having already downloaded and installed the MS debugging tools c/w symbols I could not get the symbol part to work and therefore could not read the dmp file. The post above, together with debugwiz got me moving again.

Now I have managed to "read the dmp file ", however I am unable to determine exactly how to resolve whatever is causing my BSOD. I have had the BSOD twice recently and my Dump Data relates to today's occurrence.

Can anyone help with my ignorance on this type of stuff please? Thanks very much.

ImproveNowNet - Welcome to the Board :)

    First a rider ....
However from your dump log ....
Take a look at this MS article - it may well apply ....

Windows Vista may stop responding when you install software that adds legacy network drivers

Thanks for your helpful response, and welcome PeteC.

On reflection, I should have added to my original post that I had tried the MS article you suggested - apologies for the inconvenience & wasting your time.

When I tried to install the hotfix a system message appeared saying something along the lines of the update not being applicable for my system. As it was the right one (Win 32 etc) I assume that the hotfix may have been already installed during some routine Windows update.

I have a suspicion that the problem maybe connected with networking/internet connection in some way.

I assume you have SP1, that's why you can't install the hotfix, since it is included in SP1.

In your case I would be contacting Microsoft Support. Try Windows Vista Service Pack 1 support, since your issue should have been fixed with SP1.

Thanks for your help Arie - I have submitted an MS support request. I will let you know how I get on in case it helps someone else here. Please bear in mind that research has indicated that MS can take a month or more to reply so my update may not be for a while.

    Thanks for your comment bdesmond.

    Interesting article.

    And by the way:

    1) I have not yet received a reply from Microsoft.
    2) The issue has not recurred again.

Update on BSOD issue which may help people

    Hello,

A while ago I started this thread which I can no longer reply to as it is over 30 days old (eh?).

    Admin: Merged with original

Since I last posted there have been some key developments which I thought may be of interest and assistance to others.

    1) Microsoft never got back to me.
    2) I did get some more BSOD since my last post.
    3) Last week I moved to my spare PC as the OS on the other one is about to fall over. (Nothing to do with BSOD).
    4) I got a BSOD today on this "new" machine. Same message as on the old PC.
    5) Afterwards I saw a Windows message saying the BSOD was something to do with my Antivirus.
    6) I ignored the advice (in Windows message) like checking for updates to AV (auto updates) and contacting vendor etc. Instead, I input Kaspersky and BSOD into Google. There are a load of posts about BSOD and Kaspersky.
    7) Thinking back, I have been running Kaspersky since about June, which I am reasonably sure is prior to when all the BSODs started.
    8) I have now uninstalled Kaspersky due to 1) Evidence it caused at least one BSOD. 2) Anecdotal evidence from others - which seemed way too common. 3) Apparent time-line.
    9) Currently running an alternative F/AV.

Summary: If you are getting BSOD Driver IRQL etc etc AND have Kaspersky installed then perhaps consider changing application.
