In order for you to use DSL on Windows 98 , You need some software called
EnterNet 300...You install the software and double click on the EnterNet 300
Icon,Then you will be able to use your DSL... At least that is what I use ..:D

I installed DSL from AT&T on one of my daughter's computers with Win98 and all I needed was the CD from AT&T, which was just an instructional CD about installing and hooking it all up. I had to buy her an ethernet card, which was inexpensive. I didn't need any special software at all. It was a real smooth install.

No. All it was was an instructional CD, telling the user how to hook up the cords, wires, etc. No software was put on the machine. Maybe now they do that, but that was back when AT&T first went to DSL and spared the user all that headache of putting on stuff that is useless.

I installed nothing. Just hooked it up to my D-Link DSL modem/router (that was already configured), and had it detect the network settings. Starting working immediately with no software. Plus it has a hardware firewall built in so nothing to worry about there.

    There ya go!

I didn't want to argue this with the original poster, I didn't think I installed any software on her system. I was over there the other day and took out the CD and looked it over as if I were setting it up. No programs. I think it is like ISP Netscape. I don't use any of the programs except mail from their site. I only use their server to dial into. But I do have the option to use whatever other stuff they offer. I have been with them since their inception. Even have a Beta Team T-shirt!!!

This all depends ON What Modem you are using....4100 or 5100, The 5100 needs PPPOE,
and the 4100 will connect automatically...
