Does this happen on any workbook, or just some specific ones?

Is the file on your hard drive, or on a network drive?

If an existing workbook, does it have linked data from another source?

Is the file an XLS or an XLSX?

Does this happen to a brand new workbook stored on the local hard drive?

It happens when opening a new workbook or working from an existing workbook. It can be stored locally or on a network drive. There may or may not be linked data.
