Is it possible to have two modems on same phone line? I have one Westell 6100 modem on a DSL line, but when trying to add a second (of same type of modem) to another jack on the same phone line it seems as though it is impossible. Whichever modem is turned on first seems to prevent the second modem to connect to DSL. The DSL light on the second powered up modem will continue to blink, internet light will not come on, and the modem setup screen will show DSL as "down ".

Is it possible to change the range of DSN numbers on the second modem, or is it simply impossible to have two DSL modems on a single phone line?

I assume it is impossible, therefore the reason wired/wireless networks exist.

You'd have to slit the line to go to each modem...

Getting two routers is generally the way to go if you need additional connections.

My problem is not that I need more connections, but simply for locational reasons...I need to run an ethernet cord from a modem/router to an XBox 360 for XBox Live, but do not have a wall connection near the modem/router, so I tried to add another modem to a different room that I already have holes in the wall to run through. I didn't want to drill another hole in the wall behind the router because it is a difficult location to get to in the attic. Thanks.

    Easy fix

ok, so i had the same issues at my home, i am on cable, but it makes no difference, i had my router like 5 feet away and in my other room i had an xbox 360 a tivo and a computer and my easiest fix was to buy a wireless bridge, i picked up a linksys wireless Ethernet bridge. it was about $70 off buy.com. you can configure this to connect to your network, however it only has one port; but, you can get an ethernet switch and plug it into your bridge and split the signal up again. it works wuite well, i am running all 3 devices regularly and it was an easy fix. you can contact me if needed and i can show you the exact devices.
