    I'm using Windows XP SP2. We just had a storm and a hydro power outage for 10mins. My desktop was on at the time and when the power came back on it tried to boot up but I received the "We apologize for the inconvenience, but windows did not start successfully, etc.....

    I was given the options of starting using:
    -Safe Mode
    -Safe Mode with Networking
    -Safe with Com.Prompt
    -Last Known Configuration
    and
    -Start Windows Normally ... which was highlighted.

    I tried all of the above several times and it seems to try to start... I get the " XP Welcome screen" then back to the above.... just going aroun in circles.

    Anyone any ideas here ???

    Much appreciated.

    :confused::confused::confused:

    Was the PC plugged into the wall or into a surge protector?

    Can you get into Safe Mode with Command Prompt?

    If yes, login as Administrator & type :
    fsutil dirty set c:
    Press Enter.

    Reboot & let Windows check the disk. In 90% of cases this solves the problem.

    I cannot get into Safe Mode from the Command Prompt.

    It has been suggested that my XP is now corrupt and it will need a XP Repair Fix (?)
