:confused:This is happening with my new system and it was happening with my old system. Some pics and graphics in Outlook (2000) and IE (6) and Gmail as well. An empty box is there and in the upper left hand corner is a logo with a red square, green circle and blue triangle (hope those colors are right). Never is a red X in that little logo box. I know it is some easy, older program that is always installed after I set up a system, but I just can't remember which one! Any ideas? You have NO idea how many sites I have been to looking for this logo!

    Thanks

    Found answer

I wanted to do a reply to my post so this might help others. I am on a exotic bird list and one of the women works for Microsoft in Seattle. After a couple posts to the list and sending a screen shot of the icon I was getting, she told me that it is the default icon that Windows puts in pictures that do not display. However, I am finding I can click on the empty box, right click, and then "show picture" and it loads. HOWEVER, and I can't find anything to back it up yet, that does not always work.

If a new solution comes up, I will let you all know!!

There are many different picture file formats.

Some are not supported in some applications, and the list of supported image formats has changed from version to version.

I know. But I tried viewing the 'source' to see the name of graphics and there is nothing there to tell me. I do have a bunch of the most popular viewers plus I use ACDSee as my default viewer. Gotta install that here in a bit. Maybe that will change things!

    Thanks Bilb0!

    Try this:
IE- Tools - Internet Options - Advanced Tab - Scroll down to Multmedia -
check that : Show Pictures is checked.

Do it even if using another browser.

That is the first thing I did. I just installed ACDSee and I am off to check my email clients to see if I can still hit "show picture' in the drop down from right clicking. If I can, all is well. I do use IE. I used to be a die-hard Netscape Communicator user until it also turned to bloatware. Didn't like Opera or that other one, Firefox or whatever. So far IE has been good to me.

If you're looking for the pictures within the source of the HTML, and you do not know the file type extension, use the "Find" feature of your editor and look for "<IMG SRC=" (Minus the quotes).

Following that shouldbe the path to the file and at the end should be the file name with the extension.
