I have a local built computer that will decide on it's own to shut off and reboot. It has been doing it for a couple years now. Sometimes it will go for months without rebooting and at times will do it several times a day. Sometimes when it gets bad I will access the case and press and wiggle the components and most times it will run for a while without stopping. This machine runs 7 24 for about 5 or so years now. Hard Drive has been replaced so I feel that is not the culprit.

I was using it yesterday and all of a sudden you hear a click, same as when turned off by using shut down, and it starts up again. I am getting to a place that I would like to replace it, but don't like to sell someone a used machine that is faulty. If I could replace the suspect part I would do so, before offering it for resale.

    Suggestions??

    thanks

    John

    Heat or low PSU output.

Or if not on line conditioning UPS may be brownout or spike.

    Test PSU output, possibly weak!

DeDust it! Add a couple of extra case cooling fans.

I took it out to the back yard and rolled out the ol air hose and gave it a blow. Full growed dust rabbets was flying everwhere.

I try to do that once a year whether they need it or not.

    Guys,
This seems to be totally unrelated to the original question.
