    My configuration is Win98 SR-1

    Browser
    Internet Explorer 5.5

    Office
    Office2000 SR-1

    Email
Outlook2000 SR-1 with Word as email editor and Outlook Express 5.5

I have recently begun to experince intermittent problem when I receive emails containing HTML. Some messages containing HTML are displayed correctly;but most messages end up as follows:

Some of the HTML may be displayed and the remainder of the document appears to have been "lost" (ie there is NOT a blank screen where the additional material should have been "“ nor is it displayed as text).

Now it gets really interesting: if you select FORWARD or REPLY then there either:

    1. there is a pause while it appears that Word loads "“ then the envelop is produced and the "lost" portion of the email becomes visible correctly formatted , OR

    2. the system freezes requiring a CTL/ALT/DEL interrupt "“ at which point, selecting Close WinWord shuts down Word and allows the envelop to be produced and the "lost" portion of the email becomes visible correctly formatted.

Copying the message to another Outlook file and copying/pasting to Word does not cause the "lost" portion to be displayed.

This happens with both Outlook2000 and Outlook Express. I first became aware of it with IE6.0. I've dumped it and re-installed IE 5.5SP2. Unfortunately the problem remains.

I am about to load Netscape as see if the problem can eliminated that way.

Can anyone please help a disparing ol' user from Down Under.

    Hi LoBob
    Welcome to the boards!
I've not got an answer for you yet, but wanted to re-cap to make sure I understood the question. In short....in both Outlook and Outlook Express, you are missing portions on email that you write and of ones you recieve?

Try the Repair Tool (Start - Settings - Control Panel - Add/Remove Programs - MS IE (double-click) - Repair).

Also, does this happen with all HTML mails or only mails from a particular source? Are you running a firewall?

In response to Daizy and Brett - further information:

As far as I am aware the problem only relates to incoming mail. I am in personal contact with one source which has provided an incomplete mail. His reply to me - "no other recipient of the same mail item has reported problems ". He receives my from me without problem.

The mail that gets truncated comes from a number of sources. Don't forget the "missing portion" becomes visible when you re-direct the item before it is actually sent.

I am not using a firewall.

    Hope that helps.

Have you run the Repair Tool? Are you running a firewall?

Sorry I missed that reference to the firewall.

This is a strange problem indeed.

Clcik Start - Run and type:

    "regsvr32 /i shdoc401.dll" (without the quotes).

Also, look under Tools - Options - Read - International Settings. What is selected under "Default Encoding "?
