    Ahhhhhhhh......... Makes perfect sense. I must say, who ever wrote the virus prgram did one heck of job of making sure nothing could touch it as I have never seen anything like that one before, but then again I am not a IT prof though. I am very glad that a person like you is around here to combat such a program. Dave, I owe you a big THANK YOU!

    BTW, I just had a weird event on my computer. I had a email notification of a PM on another site that I frequent (non computer), when I clicked it, my computer froze up, all desktop icons disappeared. Had to do a cold boot. But now it worked. So not sure if related, but it normally never does that.

    So is there anything further I need to do as far as the virus is concerned or further sweeping of files?

    That post also instructs you to run another cfscript and post the log it produces. If you ran that script, the log will be at C:\ComboFix.txt

    Go ahead and do another scan with Deckard's too, then post it's log as well.

    Sorry about not following instructions, but I thought I had done so on post 39

    First, check for updates to MBAM. Do not run a scan yet.

    Once again, please disable Norton. Highlight and copy the contents of the code box below and paste it into a blank notepad, then save it to your desktop as;

    Filename: CFScript.txt
    Save As Type: All Files (*.*)

    Code:
    KillAll::
    File::
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\jjtnayua.dll
    Registry::
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
     "187101bc "=-

    Close all other windows and programs. Now drag the CFScript.txt onto ComboFix.exe and drop it, using the left mouse button. Combofix should run and may reboot the computer when it's done. A log will open when it's complete. Post the contents of that log.

    Please do not click on the ComboFix window while it is running a scan. This can cause it to stall.

    Now run a scan with MBAM and post it's log if anything is found infected.

    Then, download Dr.Web CureIt, saving the file to your desktop.
    • Doubleclick the drweb-cureit.exe file and Allow to run the express scan
    • This will scan the files currently running in memory and when something is found, click the yes button when it asks you if you want to cure it. This is only a short scan
    • Once the short scan has finished, mark the drives that you want to scan
    • Select all drives. A red dot shows which drives have been chosen
    • Click the green arrow at the right, and the scan will start
    • Click 'Yes to all' if it asks if you want to cure/move the file
    • When the scan has finished, in the menu, click file and choose save report list
    • Save the report to your desktop. The report will be called DrWeb.csv
    • Close Dr.Web Cureit
    • Please post the contents of DrWeb.csv here

    Finally, post a fresh dss log.

    I am working with Dr Web now. post #46

    On the quick scan it found only 1 But it is the Qwest (DSL rovider) file The obect:sprtsync.dll Path: :\programfiles\qwest\quickcare\bin Status: probably DLOADER.Trojan

    And when I clicked cure, only option was to delete it as it is incurable.

    So I thought I had better ask 1st as do not want to loose my ISP service.

    Also I did not see any red dots like you mentioned in directions, so not sure what to do. Thus thought it is a good point to pause and seek further instructions.

    sprtsync.dll is related to SupportSoft SyncManager, and probably OK. Leave it for now.

    The red dots will only appear when you select the Custom scan. Just go ahead and do the Complete scan instead.

    Guess I better update my instructions :rolleyes:

    Looks great! Lets fix one registry entry that is incorrect. Highlight and copy the contents of the code box below.

    Code:

    reg add HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run /v UC_Start /t REG_SZ /d  "\ "C:\Program Files\IBM\Updater\ucstartup.exe\" " /f
    exit
    cls

    Now click Start>Run and type cmd then hit Enter to open a command window.
    Right click in the command window and select paste.
    It will run very quickly then close.
    Please reboot.

    Now, scan with Kaspersky WebScanner

    You will be promted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.
    • The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
    • Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
    • Now click on Scan Settings
    • In the scan settings make that the following are selected:
      • Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
      • Extended (if available otherwise Standard)
      • Scan Options:
      • Scan Archives
        Scan Mail Bases
    • Click OK
    • Now under select a target to scan:

    Dave, I am curious about the 5G that was made available. So what would have been using it? As when I downloaded software that showed where my memory was being used, it did not show anything unusual. Was it perhaps system restore points, or??? I am still scratching my head about that one today.

    I am downloading Kaspersky now as I type this...

    It may well have been restore points. Was System Restore turned off at some point, removing what was previously there?

    I have no idea on the system restore. I know once a month I run Spybot and it does a system restore point. Not sure if it erases old one or not. And no idea about what Norton has done in the last 3.5 years on this conmputer.

    it took 95 minutes to run kaspersky, ran into a glich as in "Now click on the Save as Text button: " I did not see it as I was searching for it, I saw another Active X so clicked it thinking the save as text would appear--wrong. Had to start over. So where is this button located at?

    FYI, over 90 infected files were found. Plus a handful of suspicious ones.

    I'll let it run and check in the AM.

    Looks like they changed the scanner again. I don't see a report button either. See if you can copy the results and paste them into notepad or something.

    Dave, I was correct in a way, that 2nd acive X was the reports buttons. So twice the active X comes up, may want to take note of that. And it is called "Save report as ". Either as text or you can save as web page too.

    And there is an expand report button too, in that report you can select objects to delete, And there are 3 chioces, All, none, suspicious (top left of report on web page). I am keeping up the web page for in case you want things deleted.

    The HJT log in on next post.

    This is the Kasersky text:
