When playing my stored CD's with Windows Media 11, I sometimes get this message:

"Windows Media Player cannot play the file because the associated playlist contains too many nested playlist ". I just click on OK and it plays ok.

The problem is, I've never created Any playlists. What I do have is hundreds of cd's divided into 4 separate file directories. Each directory has about 500 songs in it. I just rotate between playing a different directory every couple of days.

When I click on All Playlists, no playlist shows, per se but when I edit Untitled Playlists it shows 706 items = 40hrs which is probably the total of all CD's in the 4 directories(?).

What's the easiest way to fix this (please be specific as, as you can tell, I am not too familiar with Windows Media. (I looked on the MS website but couldn't find any specific instructions that told how to fix this).

I can offer a guess, since I shy away from players which auto create "playlist libraries ". A playlist song entry is a "shortcut" pointing to the source physical file located in your music folder. My suspicions lie in the music source folder, not the playlist you created. When adding a "music CD" to your music folder, some media managers (based on player settings) will create/add a Group name folder, Album name folder, followed by the song title(s). Look in your "Music folder" and see how many folders are present and do they contain nested folders followed by one or more songs (CD partial rips can create havoc in this area). In a imperfect world, one song could nest in a 3 folder path.

    Dennis L,

Thanks for trying but I am still without a solution.

As I indicated, I have never knowingly created any playlist. When I click on "Playlists" it says something like "No playlists have been created ".

All I have are 4 folders Music, Music1, Music2, Music3 described above with many CD's/songs in each one. I created each of the three extra folders by cutting and pasting. The directory tree of each folder and each cd shows nothing unusal.

Also, a search of the word "Playlist" shows no folders with any contents

    Anyone else have any suggestions?
