    I got it via an incremental update of a bit over 600Kb

    Installed via auto-update, no problems.
    My risks are offset by layered data backups (auto) and manual images.

    That's Version 3.0a1, which is alpha, and certainly not for end users. These versions are for developers. Mozilla says this about 3.0a1:

    My error, I read the forum heading and thought Firefox, not Thunderbird.
