    I am looking for a way to change the default calc in Excel to manual, rather than auto. Is there a registry setting or any other way that would allow me to do this. Thank you.

    Why not do it from within Excel?

    File->Excel Options->Formulas

    When I close and reopen Excel it reverts back to its original settings.
