    Reposition and Rekick... no seriously...

Try doing a quick search for OpenGL drivers
    Try here http://www.glsetup.com/
They can point you to where you might want to go..

As you know XP is fairly new, and they have a few compatibility bugs that they have not ironed out yet... :)

    And of course...

    An old standby option:

One go to Microsoft, download the absolute most recent DirectX drivers for Windows XP, then reinstall those OVER your recent upgraded 'NEW' drivers that did not work.

    Desperate.... action to take...

When it gets down to where it refuses to do what you want it to do...
Copy your data files, update files, installation files all to a secondary HDD, then format the first HDD. Reinstall form scratch.

What has happened is itseems to have gotten corrupted to the point you just about have to start over.
By putting all these files on the secondary hard drive, then formatting the first drive, then you can get att hem very first thing after it is Reinstalled.

Reinstall clean, short of that on this won't work.

Back up your data first, on the secondary, then go for it.

    Drivers

    23.11 drivers should be ok.

Are you using reference drivers or your cards manufacturers own ones?

I have used ref. drivers ok with mx200's several times no problem, combined with dx8, 8a and 8.1.

If your manufacturer has their own drivers try and use them first.

I'm using a 256 pro ddr based card in XP happily, but it runs much better with its creative drivers than it does with ref drivers. A lot of the geoforce based cards can be made "tweaked" here and there.

glsetup is good for sorting out opengl files but I think it just uses reference drivers.

JerryM is right, sometimes windows just gets too broke, and nothing will do any good but a clean install, see it almost every day :(

i've tried various versions of GeForce Drivers (un-installing between switching)

this is a clean boot, I installed xp on a formatted drive 2 days ago, then installed drivers for my video card.

it gets weirder, sometimes when I boot up it works fine (After changing nothing),

    Cooling

Starting to think you might have a flaky card.

Does it have a cooling fan on it (most mx's dont) and if it does is it running. Some geoforces can cook themselves very quickly if the cooling fails.

    Are your bios settings correct?

What make and model is your geoforce?
