I have changed a couple of basic yellow folder icons on my desktop using Properties -> customize -> change icon. I am successful at changing the icon, but then later it reverts back to the default yellow folder. What am I doing wrong?!

Those sort of "won't stick" problems I put down to it being too hard for Windows to work/maintain. Try choosing something easier for Windows to use. If you using something custom-made, try making it making it a simpler version (less detail?). There are icon "building" programs around.

Is it necessary to restart the computer after changing the setting. Or it just applied when we click the OK button?
