Catch-22 and lotsa BSOD's and other nifty errors.

my setup:

Abit AT7 MoBo (USB2.0/LAN/Raid/5.1Audio/USB1.1/1394)
AMD 2100+
768mb PC2100
SB Audigy Platinum w/HD & 1394
Sony DVD
Sony CD-RW
SMC Wireless NIC
OCSystems Ti4200 gf4
80gb maxtor hd IDE

Win2000 Pro

OK. here is my situation. i built this machine. (my first mistake apparently). I installed Win2000 on a fresh HD. and ever since i have been getting BSOD. whenever i try to install anything, ie MS Service Pack 3 or a simple Kaplan GMAT tutor, anything, with these errors:

"drivers_irql_not_less_or_equal "
"irql_not_less_or_equal "
0x000000A
0x0000001E
0x0000009B

and some others i can't remember. some like hall.hl or usbahci.dll file references.

I tried eleimating all hardware except Vid card and HD and CD, still got BSOD.

so i went out and bought Win XP Pro. and it Blue Screens as soon as it gets to the "select a partition" to install on, and i select, then it crashes.

so now i tried to go back to Win2000 that was still on my HD. and it loads up fine except...

none of my USB ports work, and it has a "Found New Hardware" GENERAL USB HUB query on the screen. but i can't do anything w/ it cuz my Mobo doesn't have any PS/2 or any other input devices except the USB variety. sorta Catch-22.

any ideas about any of it?

 

sounds to me like you have a motherboard problem or maybe a CPU problem. Did the motherboard come with a DOS based diags disk?

 

If you have the M/B CD, then install the Via chipset drivers, and any other goodies that are available.

If you don't have the CD then go here, to download. HTH.
